personalized gifts for mom DIY Tombstone Candy Holder (…that lights up!) pillow case baby

So, last week I mentioned I would be joining in on a Virtual “;Do-It-HERself”; Party…;…;.yes, that cute Tombstone Candy Holder!!? It’;s a quick project that is very simple to put together…;.and is just in time for Halloween!? Oh, and do you remember how I mentioned you could either make it on your own (more info below), or learn how to make the same project in person, by attending a FREE Home Depot workshop (#DIHworkshop) in your area?!!? (Check out dates/times and register HERE!)

Well, I finished my version and have been excited to show you what a fun and quick project this was!? I decided to change mine up a bit though…;…;to make it LIGHT UP!!!

waterproof outdoor pillow covers

I kinda love how it turned out…;…;and am especially excited to finally have something to sit over in the corner of our living roompersonalized gifts for mom, that is sometimes hard to decorate for each holiday!? Ooooh, I love it!!!

The tombstone is made from one single piece of plywood (a 2×;2 foot piece) and comes together very simply.? The attached holder on the front is perfect for candy…;.but could even be filled with plastic spiders or other small toys.

I added LED lights to the “;RIP”; letters to light them up…;…;but even when it’;s daytime, the bulbs make those letters pop!

But when the day turns to night, those bulbs give such a fun look to that little tombstone!

You could even set the tombstone on your front porch if you’;re headed out to trick-or-treat with your own kiddos…;…;

…;..or just keep it inside and enjoy it with your Halloween decor! :)

I followed the instructions linked in the supply list above and cut out the parts to my tombstone.

Then I assembled the box and started nailing it together.

Having a clamp handy was helpful in attaching the box front to the actual tombstone.

I used a grey “;hammered-look”; spray paint and used that on the main tombstone shape.

Then I used a plain flat black paint on the box portion of the project.

Next, I printed some letters out on the computer (I used grey ink on my printer to save ink…;.but realized it kinda blended in with my silver tombstone, sorry about that!) and then cut each letter out.? Then I traced around each letter with a pencil.

Next, I decided where I wanted each light bulb to poke through and made a dot with a pencil to be sure I liked the placement of each one.? Then, I drilled a hole through each dot and sanded the surface of each hole just a bit to get rid of any jagged edges.? Then I painted within the outline of each letter with black paint.

Next, I pushed the base of each bulb through from the back of the tombstone and then added the bulb back in on the front.

Then I hand painted the letters “;Trick or Treat”; with white paint onto the holder portion of the project.

Lastly, I dabbed a wet paper towel into a very small amount of black paint and then dabbed it onto the tombstone, focusing on the outer edges.? I kinda smeared it around and wiped away any excess.

Once the paint was dry, I added some candy and placed over with my other Halloween decor!

Pretty quick project, right?? If you want to give it a try on your own…;just follow the instructions above!? Or, if you’;d rather some assistance, head on over to your local Home Depot this Thursday (October 19th) and put one together in time for Halloween!? (Just be sure to SIGN UP HERE!!)
